EXPLAINATION

What is Teeth Whitening?

Tooth discolouration can occur for many reasons, the most popular being smoking or drinking dark drinks such as coffee, tea and red wine, causing teeth to stain. However, simply the process of ageing can also cause teeth to become discoloured too.

Ensuring superior results every time, our teeth whitening treatments provide a natural, perfectly white smile.

At German Dental Clinic we offer Zoom. Philips Zoom professional whitening is a fast, effective and safe way to whiten your teeth. Results are immediate and is clinically proven to whiten up to 6 shades in 1 hour. We also offer a home whitening kit.

Both are effective in whitening teeth, however the main difference depends on the application method and time required to see results. In office treatments are done under a dentist’s supervision, can whiten up to 6 shades in one hour and can last for a longer period of time.

For at home treatments, we will take a digital impression of your mouth, make a custom tray and a bleaching solution to take home. This treatment slowly whitens your teeth over time and can be done comfortably at home.

Consultation

If you're thinking about teeth whitening, you'll be asked to book an appointment with our cosmetic dentist who will inspect your teeth and explain how the process works. Your dentist will also work with you to determine the exact shade of whiteness you're looking to achieve for a natural smile.

Treatment

Your lips and gums are covered to leave just your teeth exposed. Your dentist will then apply whitening gel to your teeth, and a slightly heated lamp is shone into your mouth. The gel works in conjunction with the light to activate its ingredients, successfully penetrating the surface of the teeth and bleaching any discolouration that may be present.

Aftercare

You'll be given clear and practical advice to follow in order to lengthen the lifetime of your teeth whitening treatment. Your dentist may advise that habits such like too much coffee, red wine or smoking could stain your teeth and you should look to cut them down.

How to keep my teeth white

After your session you’ll be given a bespoke touch-up kit to take home. This kit will include custom-fitted whitening trays you can use to maintain the whiteness of your teeth for as long as possible – your dentist will instruct you on both how and when to use the kit.

Does teeth whitening hurt?

No, the entire experience is typically pain-free. The most you’re likely to feel is warmth from the light. However, if your teeth are particularly sensitive, you may experience some sensitivity both during and after treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does teeth whitening take in the clinic?

The procedure will take one hour.

We will protect your gums with a special covering and apply hydrogen peroxide gel to your teeth, where it will whiten under a light. The gel stays on your teeth for 15 minutes at a time and the process is repeated three times for a total of 45 minutes.

During this time, you can listen to music or watch TV, making this treatment extremely relaxing and non-invasive.

Will I notice a difference from teeth whitening?

Yes – due to the gel’s specialist combination of advanced ingredients, your teeth will appear considerably whiter after just one visit.

Is teeth whitening safe?

Yes, teeth whitening is completely safe and won’t cause any damage to the structure of your teeth.  The safest way to whiten your teeth is by a dental professional. Many of the over-the-counter teeth whitening products contain a very small percentage of hydrogen peroxide and do not have as big of an effect as in clinic whitening. The results are also immediate.

How long does teeth whitening last?

Most discolourations can be remedied with teeth whitening. The treatment can last up to 2 years depending on how you care for your teeth.

In addition to the touch-up kit, you should also avoid excessive consumption of certain foods and beverages to prevent your teeth from becoming stained again – including tea, coffee and red wine.

Smoking should also be avoided at all costs too, as tobacco products have been consistently shown to stain teeth over time.

Who can have teeth whitening?

Teeth whitening isn’t recommended for children under the age of 13, or for pregnant women.

Are there any side effects?

In the days following teeth whitening, your teeth may be particularly sensitive. However, it subsides within a few days. We recommend that you avoid foods and drinks that can stain for a period after your teeth whitening. This includes black coffee, dark tea, red wine and acidic drinks.
