A panoramic X-ray takes a scan of your entire mouth in one image.
EXPLANATION
A panoramic X-ray takes a scan of your entire mouth in one image. It includes all teeth, the upper and lower jaws, nasal area and sinuses. This allows us to have a better and more detailed view of any bone abnormalities, impacted teeth, infections and fractures that cannot be seen in a traditional X-ray.
Where traditional X-rays are taken intraorally, a panoramic X-ray is done extraorally, meaning the imaging machine is outside your mouth and rotates around your head.
SUITABILITY
Panoramic X-rays are generally used when we are planning any orthodontic treatments, either braces or Invisalign, implants or dentures.
BENEFITS
Panoramic X-rays provide a detailed view of your entire mouth very quickly.
The radiation dose is lower than a traditional intraoral X-ray i.e. bitewing and periapical x-rays, as the exposure time is also less.
