What is Invisalign?

Using advanced 3D technology to create your bespoke treatment plan, a series of clear aligners are custom-made for your teeth – able to move them little by little. Applying just the right amount of force to your teeth, aligners are typically changed every two weeks to ultimately achieve a fully corrected position.

Unlike traditional fixed braces, Invisalign controls both the timing and amount of movement each aligner provides based on your unique treatment plan. This process ensures only certain teeth move at each stage, resulting in a successful delivery of force that’s targeted and precise.

If you require teeth straightening treatment, you or your dentist may suggest Invisalign. At your initial consultation your dentist will be able to tell you if you're suitable for Invisalign braces and what the treatment involves. You will be able to weigh up the options between invisible, removable and fixed braces.

Before you can have your custom made Invisalign aligner, you'll need to have an impression of your mouth taken. This is to ensure that the bespoke Invisalign aligner fits comfortably in your mouth and will work properly to align your teeth. Once your impression has been used to create the aligner, your dentist will invite you back to try the aligner.

You'll be required, like any orthodontics treatment, to frequently visit the dentist throughout the treatment to ensure that the Invisalign aligner is working correctly and yielding the desired results. Further information about how to care for your Invisalign aligner can be found below.

What do Invisalign aligners look like?

Made of clear, flexible plastic, each aligner within your treatment plan has been designed to look virtually undetectable whilst worn – allowing you to live your normal life without feeling self-conscious about wearing traditional bracketed braces.

How long do I need to wear Invisalign braces for?

Each treatment plan is specific to the individual, so overall treatment time will vary dependent on how much correction is needed.

You need to wear your aligner for at least 20 hours per day, and will need to change it every couple of weeks as directed by your dentist. Each aligner is slightly different in coordination with your treatment plan, designed to gradually shift your teeth with optimum precision.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I eat with Invisalign braces?

You must remove your aligner every time you eat, drink and brush your teeth.

Is Invisalign treatment painful?

Invisalign is so successful because it apply gentle, constant force that’s specifically tailored to your teeth. You may feel slight discomfort for the first couple of days of wearing a new aligner, but this is simply a sign that it’s working!

How do I take care of my Invisalign braces?

To keep your aligners clean and hygienic at all times, it’s recommended to brush them with a toothbrush and toothpaste every day and rinse with lukewarm water. It’s important never to use hot water when cleaning your aligners as this could permanently damage the plastic.

What do I do if I lose my Invisalign brace?

If you lose an aligner you should be wearing, it’s important to let us know immediately. Your dentist will work alongside you to ensure you stay on-track with your plan – this may include wearing a previous aligner or ordering a brand new one.

How do I prevent my teeth from returning back to their original position following Invisalign treatment?

As with any form of orthodontic treatment, it’s highly recommended to wear a retainer to prevent your teeth from shifting back.

This will be discussed with you as you undergo treatment.
