EXPLANATION

Why do you need a hygienist appointment?

Visiting a dental hygienist regularly ensures a healthy and stable environment for your oral health. In addition to treating gum disease, our hygienist will recommend preventive measures and advice on diet and proper brushing techniques to reduce the progression of tooth decay and keep your teeth and gums healthy.

Poor oral hygiene can cause gum disease, also known as gingivitis. It is extremely common and if left untreated can progress to periodontitis. Early signs include bleeding gums and can lead to gum recession and bone loss if left untreated. Regular dental hygiene visits can prevent gum disease from progressing and even reverse it completely with a good oral hygiene routine.

Even if you use your toothbrush, dental floss and interdental brushes frequently, your teeth need a professional maintenance cleaning at regular intervals. Not all bacteria can be removed with a toothbrush.

In addition to the wonderful feeling of a completely clean mouth, you can also be happy that the price for a teeth cleaning is always well spent. Dental cleaning helps to ensure healthy teeth and gums throughout life.

PROCEDURE

What happens at your hygienist visit?

During a teeth cleaning, the dental hygienist or dentist will remove plaque and tartar, which a toothbrush alone cannot handle. If they are not removed, it can result in gum disease, which can further develop into periodontal disease. Dental cleanings help to a large extent to prevent dental diseases and the regular visits to the dentist can help detect cavities and gingivitis in its early stages.

Not only will your teeth feel clean and smooth but will appear brighter as plaque and tartar contribute to discolouration and a teeth cleaning reduces this discolouration.

At German Dental Clinic we use a special advanced system for hygienist appointments called Guided Biofilm Therapy which you can read more about below.

PROFESSIONAL

Who will be carrying out treatment?

Dental hygienists are specialized in teeth cleaning, preventive treatments and advice. They therefore are most often the ones who will provide hygiene treatments, whereas the dentist is responsible for the actual treatments.

ADVANCED  SYSTEM

Guided Biofilm Therapy

This is the technology that is used for our hygienist appointments. Proven by scientific evidence, Guided Biofilm Therapy is provided by the state of the art EMS Airflow Swiss Technology. At the German Dental Clinic, we aim to provide the very best treatments with the latest dental technological advancements.

Airflow treatment allows us to achieve a deeper yet more gentle cleaning that a normal dental scaler cannot provide. It uses two handpieces; Airflow and Perioflow. The Airflow handpiece is used for stain removal, cleaning sensitive teeth, whereas the Perioflow is for treating gum disease and is the only clinically supported implant cleaning method of its kind. It can also reach deep into periodontal pockets to remove bacteria that cause significant dental problems.

GBT is tailored to each patient depending on their dental needs and oral environment condition with up to 8 steps to consider.

We are one of the few dental practices that are officially GBT Certified. Our dentists and dental hygienists continue to improve their professional development with EMS with regular webinars and up-to-date research.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a standard hygienist appointment and using the GBT method?

The Airflow system that provides Guided Biofilm Therapy techniques is a quick and comfortable method of removing plaque, stains and discolouration from wine, tea and coffee. Compared to a standard hygiene appointment, Airflow uses a mixture of fine powder particles, compressed air and water. This comfortable and gentle air polishing is painless and provides an effective deeper cleaning, ideal for patients with sensitive teeth.

Do you need a dental appointment or can it be a standalone appointment?

We would need to do an initial consultation before providing any dental treatment, including hygiene appointments.
